Panthers, Lady Panthers beat Covenant Christian

Berwick held Covenant Christian scoreless in the first half, and the Lady Panthers cruised past their visitors from the Houma area, 33-8, in Monday basketball action.
While Berwick scored eight points in the first quarter and 12 more in the second, Covenant Christian was held scoreless and did not attempt a free throw in the initial half as it trailed 20-0 at the break.
In the third quarter, Berwick held a 5-3 scoring advantage for a 25-3 lead and in the fourth, Berwick outscored Covenant Christian 8-5 for the final.
Aija Robinson led the Lady Panthers with 21 points, while other top contributors included Kayla Francis and Mickenzie Reed with 4 points apiece.
The Lady Panthers (2-3) will return to action Friday in Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche when they face the winner of the Lafayette Christian-Centerville matchup.

The Berwick Panthers continued their early season success with a 45-42 victory against Covenant Christian Monday night.
Berwick took an 8-5 lead after a period of play, and both teams scored 14 points in the second quarter for a 22-19 Berwick lead at the break.
Covenant Christian trimmed the lead to 1 at 32-31 after three quarters before Berwick held them off in the final period with a 13-11 scoring edge.
Tim Shelby and Audwin Williams both reached double figures for Berwick with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
Other top contributors included Brandon Naverro, 6 points; and Cody Roberie and Tré Matthews, 5 points apiece.
Berwick (5-1), winners of three straight, will return to action Thursday when it meets Houma Christian at 6:30 p.m. at Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche.
