Patterson defeats Berwick in District 9-3A action
The Patterson Lumberjacks defeated the Berwick Panthers, 57-42, in District 9-3A action Tuesday.
Patterson took an 18-9 lead after the first quarter and led 35-23 at the half.
While the Lumberjacks extended their lead to 49-27 after three quarters, Berwick outscored the visitors 15-8 in the final period for the final.
Patterson had three players reach double figures as Dontrell Benjamin scored 12, Nehemiah Augustus, 11 and Taylan Grogan, 10. Other top contributors included Larry Turner and Daylon Charlot, six each; Malik Garrett, five; and Bryce Beaubouef, three.
Audwin Williams and Brandon Naverro reached double figures for the Panthers with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Other top contributors included Brice Benedietto, five; and Cody Roberie and Tré Matthews, four apiece.
Berwick (7-17 overall, 0-7 in district) will conclude its season Friday when it travels to face E.D. White in District 9-3A action. Junior varsity action is set for a 5:30 p.m. start with varsity to follow.
Meanwhile, Patterson (18-4, 6-1) will try to clinch a share of the District 9-3A championship when it travels to face Franklin. Donaldsonville already has clinched at least a share of the title with an 83-58 victory against Franklin Tuesday. Both Patterson and Donaldsonville have one loss in district play.
Morgan City falls
at home
The Morgan City Tigers concluded its season with a 63-40 loss to Assumption at home Tuesday in District 7-4A action.
Assumption led 11-5 after the first quarter, 25-15 at halftime, and 42-27 after three quarters.
Buddy Humphrey led the Tigers (1-22, 0-8) with 20 points, while Brady Fryou added seven. Other top contributors included Darryl Johnson and Marquise Green with four each and Abram Hartley with three.
