Patterson Lumberjacks finish 2-1 this weekend

The Patterson Lumberjacks finished 2-1 at East Jefferson’s tournament this weekend, capping the tournament with a walk-off win against Metairie Park Country Day.
In a back-and-forth game against Country Day, Patterson plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The win came after a run-rule loss to Fisher in five innings earlier Saturday.
“I was pleased to see us respond against Country Day after the loss to Fisher,” Patterson coach Ryan Jensen said. “Instead of letting that one bad loss linger, we moved on and found a way to win it in the seventh. So many players came up with clutch performances to win that game. It’s always great to have such a team win and have guys step up and produce when their opportunity presents itself.”
Jake Lagrange and Spencer Landry had productive days at the plate for the Lumberjacks. Lagrange finished 3-for-3 with a run, while Landry was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and two runs. Other top contributors included Brennan Gouaux, 1-for-2 with an RBI and Sirbatian Charles, 1-for-3, an RBI and a run.
On the mound, Cameron Navarro earned the win. In 1.2 innings of relief, he surrendered just a hit, a walk and fanned three.
Lagrange started the game, and in 5.1 innings of work, he surrendered four runs — two earned — on six hits with six walks and 10 strikeouts.
Earlier Saturday against Fisher, Patterson lost 10-0.
Fisher scored in every inning except the fourth, including a six-run fifth inning.
Patterson was limited to three hits in the contest and committed four errors.
Joel Singleton suffered the loss. In 4.2 innings, he surrendered 10 runs — six earned — on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Gouaux, Tyrik Singleton and Lagrange each finished 1-for-2.
On Friday, Patterson defeated Higgins 4-2.
Patterson plated three runs in the third, and Higgins responded with two in the bottom of the fourth.
The Lumberjacks finished the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh.
Higgins outhit Patterson 6-5 but committed four errors.
Taylor Harris led the Lumberjacks with a 1-for-4 performance with two RBIs, while Kenny Singleton was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Charles earned the win. In seven innings, he surrendered two earned runs on six hits with four walks and fanned three.
Patterson (9-6) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Riverside in a 4 p.m. contest.
Central Catholic is 2-0
this weekend
Central Catholic defeated H.L. Bourgeois 7-1 Saturday after topping Assumption 13-2 on Friday, both games at the Sports Medicine Center of Thibodaux Regional Tiger/Cardinal Baseball Classic.
Against H.L. Bourgeois, Central Catholic scored two runs in the first inning, and after H.L. Bourgeois countered with a run in the bottom of the second, the score remained the same until the Eagles plated five unanswered runs — a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh inning.
Even in the handy win, the Eagles left nine runners on base.
Bryson Barbier led the Eagles with a 1-for-2 performance with a double, two RBIs and a run, while Matthew Barbier also finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run. Other top contributors included Nick Case, 1-for-3, two RBIs; and Sage Thibodaux, 1-for-4, an RBI.
The Eagles pitching staff combined to limit H.L. Bourgeois to just three hits.
Blake Hidalgo earned the win in relief. In 4.2 innings, he surrendered just a walk and fanned two.
Patrick Barron started for the Eagles, and in 2.2 innings, he surrendered an earned run on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
On Friday, the Eagles rolled past Assumption, 13-2.
The Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead after their fourth inning at bat.
While Assumption added a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles kept cruising, outscoring the Mustangs 6-1 the rest of the way.
Central Catholic pounded out 14 hits in the win.
Barron Courtney led the Eagles with a 3-for-3 performance with a double, two RBIs and two runs, while Case was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a run and a stolen base. Other top contributors included Stefano Guarisco, 2-for-3, two runs and two stolen bases; Charlie Barron, 1-for-3, three RBIs and a run; Samuel Guarisco, 1-for-3, two RBIs and a run; Hidalgo and Thomas Garber, each 1-for-1 with an RBI; Tony Pennison, 1-for-1, a double and a run; Bryson Barbier, 1-for-3, a double and a run; and TJ Ruffin, an RBI.

Tyler Hoffpauir pitched an inning of relief and surrendered just a hit.
Despite its success at the plate, the Eagles stranded 12 runners on base, while Assumption left eight.
Central Catholic (11-2) will return to action Tuesday when it begins District 7-1A play with a 5:30 p.m. contest against Highland Baptist in New Iberia.
Berwick wins lone game
The Berwick Panthers defeated Mamou 5-2 Friday in Catholic High-New Iberia’s tournament.
While Mamou took the lead in the top of the first inning with two runs, Berwick responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the fifth for the final margin.
While Mamou outhit Berwick 6-5, Mamou committed four errors.
Daniel Gray earned the win for Berwick. In seven innings, he surrendered two unearned runs on six hits with one walk, one hit batter and four strikeouts.
Berwick assistant coach Lud Henry said the Panthers played solid on defense.
Brooks Richard led the Panthers with a 3-for-3 performance, while Nick Duthu and Gray each recorded an RBI.
Berwick (10-5) will return to action Tuesday when it opens district play at Franklin. Junior varsity action will begin at 4 p.m., with varsity to follow at 6 p.m.
Morgan City goes 0-3
this weekend
The Morgan City Tigers had a tough weekend, going 0-3 at the Sports Medicine Center of Thibodaux Regional Tiger/Cardinal Baseball Classic, falling 4-2 to South Lafourche Friday, and on Saturday, dropping a 12-2 decision to Livonia and an 11-4 contest to E.D. White.
On Friday, Grant Perry suffered the loss for the Tigers. In 5.1 innings, he surrendered three runs on four hits with six walks and fanned three.
John Ross McNemar led the Tigers with a 2-for-4 performance with a double and a run, while Evan Stadalis finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and Matt Lorenzo had an RBI.
Morgan City scored a run apiece in the third and fifth innings. In the third frame, McNemar, who had doubled to lead off the inning, scored after Lorenzo flied out to left field.
In the fifth, Nick Spinella, who reached on a single, scored on a two-out hit by Stadalis.
On Saturday against Livonia, Morgan City scored its lone runs in the first and sixth innings. In the first, Lorenzo’s groundout to second base plated a run, while in the sixth, Lorenzo connected on a lead-off home run.
Stadalis took the loss. No individual pitching stats were available. At the plate, Lorenzo led the Tigers with a 1-for-3 performance with a home run and two RBIs.
Against E.D. White, Morgan City plated its runs in the third and sixth innings.
In the third, Morgan City scored runs on Spinella’s single and Lorenzo’s fly out to right field.
Morgan City’s final two runs came in the sixth inning after an error by E.D. White’s shortstop allowed two runs to score.
Abram Hartley finished 2-for-2, while Lorenzo was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Nick Spinella, 1-for-4, an RBI.
Rhett Fryou took the loss for Morgan City. In four innings, he surrendered 10 runs on nine hits with two walks and fanned five.
In two innings of relief, Ethan Scioneaux surrendered a run on no hits with a walk and fanned two.
The Tigers (4-8) will return to action Tuesday when they open District 7-4A play with a contest against Ellender. Junior varsity will begin at 4 p.m., with varsity to follow at 6 p.m.
