Patterson tops Berwick in district action

The Patterson High School Lumberjills won their District 9-3A opener with a 51-8 victory against the Berwick Lady Panthers.
While Patterson took a 24-8 lead into halftime, it nearly doubled its output in the third quarter with a 23-point outburst.
The Lady Panthers were held scoreless in the second half.
Galen Grogan and Erykah Singleton both reached double figures for the Lumberjills with 13 and 10 points, respectively; while Nakia Brooks had eight; Nia Broussard, six; and Jazmin Evans and Kemprielle Williams, three points apiece.
Reagan Bowers and Brittany Boudreaux each scored three points to lead Berwick.
Berwick (2-15 overall, 0-1 in district) will return to action Friday when it takes on E.D. White in a 5:30 p.m. contest.

Assumption
The Morgan City High School Lady Tigers picked up arguably their biggest win of the season Tuesday as they shocked Assumption, 59-58, in Morgan City in District 7-4A play.
While Morgan City trailed 34-28 at halftime, the Lady Tigers had tied things up at 43 after the third quarter.
Morgan City held on for the win after edging Assumption 16-15 in the fourth quarter.
Morgan City’s Casey Chenevert had a game-high 31 points, including all seven of the Lady Tigers’ 3-pointers; while Laqwajhia Bourgeois had 14.
Other top contributors included Kaylyn Washington, six; and Steveiyon Walker, four.
Assumption’s Kevreion Ward had 23 points, while Amanda Gionelloni had 21
Morgan City (11-5 overall, 1-1 in district) will take a break from district action Friday when it travels to take on Madison Prep in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
Central Catholic eases by Hanson Memorial
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles outscored Hanson Memorial in three of four quarters en route to an easy 58-44 victory Tuesday in District 7-1A play Tuesday.
Central Catholic took a 15-6 lead after the first quarter and led 34-14 at the half.
The Lady Eagles used a 24-10 third-quarter advantage to extend their lead to 58-24 after three quarters.
Central Catholic still managed to win by double-digits despite being outscored 20-0 in the fourth quarter.
Randi Brown led the Lady Eagles with 27 points as well as seven assists, six rebounds, three steals and one block, while Meo Knight had 20 points, six rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks.
Other top contributors included Megan Landry, eight points, two steals and one assist; Hallie Autin, three points, two steals and one rebound; and Gee Garrett, five rebounds, one steal and one assist.
Central Catholic (16-2, 4-0) will return to action Friday when it hosts Ascension Episcopal in a District 7-1A contest. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start.
