Patterson High School standout Jordan Butler will be continuing his football career beyond the high school level as he signed with Victor Valley College in Victorieville, California, Wednesday.
Butler, a first-team All-District 8-3A wide receiver as a senior, said he began being recruited by the two-year junior college, located northeast of Los Angeles, this year
“He liked the way I played, and he just basically persuaded me to be a part of their team, and I liked what they were saying,” Butler said of the coach recruiting him.
Butler said he. felt like he could fit in and start at Victor Valley, which lost two starting wide receivers
He said he also had offers from Iowa Central and some schools in the Minnesota area, but Victor Valley was simply the right fit.
“He’s a great asset for us,” Patterson Coach Ryan Stewart said of Butler. “He made some tough catches all year long. He knows how to fight for the ball, and that’s what he does. He did that for us all year long. … He definitely knows how to catch the football.”
As a senior, Butler had 38 catches for 687 yards and five touchdowns. He had a long gain of 64 yards and averaged about 62 yards receiving per contest.
“I feel like I got faster and I got stronger,” he said of his improvements as a senior.
As for his next-level preparations, Butler said he needs to improve and get bigger.
He also said he needs to improve his attitude in terms of not getting down on himself.
Victor Valley finished its 2016 season with a 6-4 mark.
