PHS’ Beaubouef qualifies for state golf tourney

Patterson High School golfer Bryce Beaubouef advanced to the Division 3 state tournament after firing a 79 in regional play at The Atchafalaya at Idlewild Tuesday.
Beaubouef, who finished tied with Episcopal’s Ben Murrey with a 79, will be joined at state by Northlake Christian’s Stephen Wall with a 71, while Riverside’s Deuce Wallace shot a 76.
This is the second consecutive year Beaubouef has advanced to state after finishing 25th at state a year ago.
“It’s always nice to have someone competing in the state match. … He actually shot better this year than he did last year to qualify,” Patterson golf coach Tyler Olivier said. “He actually needed to. It was a pretty tough field this year for the golf team.”
University Lab’s Trey Winstead finished with the day’s lowest score after firing a 70.
University High finished first at the match, shooting a combined 304, while Parkview Baptist was second with a 311; Catholic High-New Iberia, third at 316; and Newman, fourth at 323. All four teams will join the individuals at state, which will be held Monday and Tuesday at East Ridge & The Club at Huntington Park in Shreveport.
Patterson finished eighth after shooting a 353.
Other Patterson golfers included Cade Thibodaux, who fired an 87; Kenny Singleton, an 89; Bobby Abshire, a 98; and Larry Guillory, a 99.
Patterson loses just two seniors, Bobby Abshire and Matt Tregle.
“Hopefully we can make a run at it next year,” Olivier said.
