Prep tennis teams sending qualifier to state tourney

Morgan City, Berwick and Central Catholic High School’s tennis teams qualified team members for state tournament action during regional play last week.
Morgan City’s doubles team of Savannah Loupe and Harleigh Price and singles’ participant Krystina Pitre all qualified for state. They are in Monroe today and will be competing in state, which is scheduled to end Tuesday.
Loupe and Price were seeded No. 2 at regionals, but had to forfeit in the quarterfinals due to illness, Morgan City coach Emma Pitre said.
Pitre advanced to the quarterfinals at regionals.
The doubles’ teams of Katelyn Gautreaux and Emily Lacoste, and Jamie Scioneaux and Amber Colbert won their first match before being defeated.
Caylee Deshotel fell in the first round of singles’ action.
The Morgan City boys’ squad fell in the first round.
Berwick advanced eight participants to state following regional play last week.
The Lady Panthers’ Mary Margaret Sanford, Claire Parsiola, Emma Gray, Allis Armato and Signe Parsiola all advanced as well as the Panthers’ Riley Credeur, Nate Furlette, Drew Landry and Geisler Ibert.
In doubles’ action, Sanford and Claire Parsiola entered the regional as the No. 1 seed and advanced to the finals where they fell to a duo from Academy of Sacred Heart.
Along the way, they beat a team from Ursuline (6-1, 6-0) and another from Academy of Sacred Heart (4-6, 6-4, 6-4).
In the finals, the Lady Panthers’ duo fell 6-0, 6-0.
Gray and Armato, seeded No. 6 in doubles’, beat a team from St. Charles 6-0, 6-0 before falling to a team from Ursuline 2-6, 1-6.
In singles’ action, Signe Parsiola beat Sopjie Diliberton of Academy of Sacred Heart 6-1, 6-3, before falling to Brittany Nguyen of Ursuline 1-6, 0-6.
In boys’ singles action, Furlette received a bye before beating Scott Ortkiese of Lusher 6-0, 6-2. He fell to Brendan Kravet of E.D. White 2-6, 5-7.
Credeur drew a bye before beating Jonathan Sedlacek of Lusher, 6-4, 6-2. Credeur fell to Lenel Parham of E.D. White, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (4-7).
In boys’ doubles action, Landry and Ibert received a bye before falling to a team from St. Charles, 2-6, 1-6.
Berwick will begin play at state Wednesday in Monroe.
In other doubles’ action, Abigail Askew and Olivia Orlando fell to a team from E.D. White, 2-6, 4-6.
In other girls’ singles action, Berwick’s Jeanne Marine Hidalgo fell 2-6, 0-6.
In additional boys’ doubles action, Austin Dehart and Andre Adams fell to a team from DeLaSalle, 3-6, 4-6, while Parker Felterman and Levi Porter fell to a team from John Curtis, 3-6, 4-6.
Central Catholic will be sending five qualifiers to state in Jaclyn Garber, Kate Patterson, Emma Thomas, Zachary Osburn and Gavin Wisdom.
The doubles team of Garber and Patterson and Thomas in singles’ play all advanced to the semifinals at regionals.
Garber and Patterson fell to Anna Lee Gardner and Erin Autenrieth of Isidore Newman, 6-4, 6-2, while Thomas fell to Gracie Gianoli of Archbishop Hannan, 6-2, 6-2.
Garber and Patterson advanced to the semifinals after winning a match 7-6, 6-0.
Thomas advanced after knocking off Christina Paul of Isidore Newman, 6-2, 6-2.
In singles play, Osburn fell to Jeremy Ramirez of Isidore Newman, 6-0, 6-0, while Wisdom fell to Princeton Carter of Isidore Newman 6-0, 6-0.
Central Catholic will begin play at state Wednesday in Monroe.
In other regional action, Sal Grizzaffi and Gage Theriot fell in doubles action to Jessie Reeves and Tim Rebonne of St. Martin’s Episcopal, 6-1, 6-4, while the doubles’ team of Connor Hebert and Quinlan Duffy fell to David Stoles and Gregory Souest of Northlake Christian, 5-7, 7-5, 7-5.
In other girls’ action, Jessica Landry and Brooke Picou fell to Cassidy Link and Lindsee Paige of Isidore Newman, 6-3, 6-3, while Lindsee Bell and Lindsee Case lost to Alexandra Herman and Charlotte Freeman of Isidore Newman, 6-2, 6-2.
