South Terrebonne spoils Morgan City’s homecoming

Those guys are just so much better than us up front on both sides of the ball.

South Terrebonne routed the Morgan City Tigers, 42-7, in the Tigers’ homecoming Friday.
Morgan City only gained two first downs and a running clock was kept from the final few minutes of the first half through the remainder of the game.
South Terrebonne jumped out to a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Sam Williams from Tyeson Verdin, a 47-yard touchdown run by Cristian Wallis, and a 2-yard touchdown pass to Payeson Verdin from Tyeson Verdin.
Wallis added another score in the second quarter, this time a 1-yard run, while Dylan Authement scored on a 15-yard run to give the Gators a 35-0 lead going into halftime.
Morgan City did not have a first down in the first half.
Morgan City coach Scott Tregle said the Tigers were outmanned and have a young team.
“Those guys are just so much better than us up front on both sides of the ball,” Tregle said.
“Same story, I just tell them don’t give up,” Tregle said. “We’re going to keep getting better every week and build on it for next year and the years to come.”
After the running clock was initiated, it ran continuously throughout the remainder of the game with the exception of one stoppage due to an injury with less than two minutes left in the game.
Wallis added another 47-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to give South Terrebonne a 42-0. Wallis finished the night with eight carries for 107 yards and three touchdowns. He also had one reception for 31 yards.
Quarterback Tyeson Verdin was 7-for-11 passing for 82 yards and threw two touchdown passes.
South Terrebonne coach Richard Curlin said his team had way too many penalties though some were on special teams. The Gators were penalized nine times for 70 yards compared to the Tigers two penalties for 15 yards.
“We wanted to try and work on some of the passing game, and we were able to do that,” Curlin said. “I thought the defense did a real good job.”Ausama carried 11 times for 152 yards and three touchdowns to spur the Patterson offense.
The junior has carried 115 times for 852 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. He averages 106.5 yards per game.
"It's a compliment to our whole team when he does well," Blanchard said. "We have good skill guys on the outsides to where teams put extra players in coverage because their scared of them. That leaves fewer people in the box to stop the run, and we're pretty good upfront so when he runs wild, it's a team effort."
South Terrebonne stayed healthy and Curlin said “that’s about all you can ask for in a game like this.”
The Gators amassed 281 total yards, while Morgan City managed just 43 total yards.
Wallis is definitely the biggest threat the team has, though the Gators do like to spread the ball around to other players, Curlin said.
With the win, the Gators improved to 7-1 and will face Ellender next week.
Morgan City had almost its entire freshman class on the field at certain points in the game, Tregle said. The Tigers have 10 seniors on the team, more than half of them who do not have any experience, he said.
“I can’t say enough about the seniors,” Tregle said.
Tregle told his senior class that he loves them and to give him two more weeks of work. Morgan City (2-6, overall, 0-2 in district) will face Vandebilt Catholic in Houma next week.
“We have a shot the next two weeks,” Tregle said. “We just have to keep improving and try to play our best games and not turn the ball over. And play good defense. That’s all we can ask of them.”
