St. Mary Parish teams flourish at Hanson tourney

The Franklin Lady Hornets, West St. Mary Wolfpack and the Berwick Lady Panthers all collected wins in the opening day of action in the 74th Annual Hanson Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament at the Billy Gene Talbot Gymnasium.
In the opener, the Franklin Lady Hornets topped the Loreauville Lady Tigers, 47-25. In the second game, the Berwick Lady Panthers nudged past the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack, 22-17. In the third contest, the West St. Mary Wolfpack rolled past the Franklin Hornets 54-31. In the final game of the night, Loreauville topped Hanson Memorial by a 64-37 score.
BERWICK 22, WEST ST. MARY 17
The Berwick Lady Panthers went on a 9-2 run in the second quarter on the way to the 22-17 victory over the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack.
Melancon led Berwick with 12 points while C. Druilhet poured in nine points for the Lady Wolfpack.
FRANKLIN 47, LOREAUVILLE 25
Kaira Butler and Jazmin Byers scored 18 and 14 points apiece to power the Franklin Lady Hornets past the Loreauville Lady Tigers 47-25.
Kenyoda Cormier added nine points while StaTrail Butler tossed in six points for the Lady Hornets.
A. Jacob scored 11 to lead the Lady Tigers.
WEST ST. MARY 54, FRANKLIN 31
Chris Snowden scored 15 points, leading the West St. Mary Wolfpack to a 54-31 victory over the Franklin Hornets Wednesday in the 76th Annual Hanson Holiday Classic at the Billy Gene Talbot Gym.
West St. Mary took a 9-5 lead in the opening quarter before securing an 18-15 advantage at the half. In the second half, West St. Mary outpointed Franklin by a 36-16 margin for the 54-31 win.
Snowden led the Wolfack with 15 points while Dondre Johnson added 12 and Wayne Armelin tossed in 10 points while Jason Pierre finished with 7 points.
LOREAUVILLE 64, HANSON 37
The Loreauville Tigers earned a 64-37 win over the Hanson Memorial Tigers in the 74th Annual Hanson Holiday Classic at the Billy Gene Talbot Gym.
Four games are on tap for today in the 76th Annual Hanson Holiday Classic. At 3:30 p.m., the Westgate Lady Tigers will take on the Highland Baptist Lady Lions. The Franklin Hornets will square off against the Loreauville Tigers at 5 p.m. The Doyle Rockets will battle Houma Christian Warriors at 6:30 p.m. The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers will play the Franklin Lady Hornets in the nightcap at 8 p.m.
