Tigers will host Rayne in final nondistrict contest

The Morgan City High School Tigers will return home, fresh off their second win of the season, to host Rayne High School Friday.
A week ago, the Tigers defeated Franklin 14-6 in Franklin.
This Friday, Morgan City will play its final nondistrict game of the season when it faces the Rayne Wolves, who fell a week ago to the LaGrange Gators, 36-20.
Rayne led as much as 14-6 early in the second half when John Michael Besse scored on a touchdown run before LaGrange exploded for 30 points during the remainder of the game while limiting Rayne to one more score midway through the final quarter on a touchdown run by Jaylon Reed.
Reed tossed a touchdown pass to Besse and also scored a touchdown. Besse also had a rushing touchdown.
Rayne totaled 342 yards of offense (154 rushing and 188 passing). Besse led the ground game with seven carries for 94 yards, while Deontrey Wilridge had 15 totes for 60 yards.
Reed completed 13 of 30 passes for 188 yards.
Besse was his leading receiving target with four catches for 61 yards, while Wilridge had two catches for 51 yards.
Defensively, Rayne limited LaGrange to 250 yards of offense.
A week ago, Morgan City and Franklin scored all of their points in the second quarter.
Morgan City scored its first touchdown on a 38-yard run by junior Jacolbi Francois with 3:54 remaining in the quarter. Senior Irving Delgado’s kick gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead.
Franklin responded with less than a minute remaining in the first half when De’John Parker scored from four yards out with 46 seconds remaining. Franklin’s attempt at a two-point conversion via the run game failed and Morgan City led 7-6.
However, the Tigers responded quickly as sophomore quarterback Hector Tolento connected with senior wide receiver Jaylen Jones for a 38-yard touchdown pass with 18 seconds remaining. Delgado’s extra point provided the final margin of victory.
Jones caught four passes for 72 yards for Morgan City, while Tolento led the Tigers’ pass game, completing 1 of 6 passes for 38 yards and a score.
Junior Abram Hartley also saw time at quarterback for the Tigers and completed 3-of-3 passes for 34 yards.
On the ground, senior Kevon Marsh led Morgan City with 18 carries for 108 yards, while Francois had six totes for 49 yards and a score.
While the Tigers had just 255 yards of total offense (183 rushing and 72 passing), its defense limited Franklin to 191 yards of total offense (173 rushing and 18 passing).
Marsh leads Morgan City this season with 443 yards on 67 carries with four scores.
Francois has rushed 48 times for 209 yards and a score, while Jones has carried the ball 18 times for 191 yards and two scores.
Through the air, Tolento has completed eight of 23 pass attempts for 192 yards with four touchdowns and one interception, while Hartley has completed 15 of 21 attempts for 145 yards and two scores.
Jones leads Morgan City’s receivers with 13 catches for 261 yards and four scores.
Morgan City head coach Scott Tregle was not available for comment this morning.
