Trio of area teams finish 2-1 at jamboree

Staff Report

Morgan City, Berwick and Central Catholic finished 2-1 to lead Tri-City area volleyball teams at the Morgan City High School Jamboree Thursday.
Patterson recorded a 1-2 day to round out the area teams.
Morgan City defeated West St. Mary (25-6) and Patterson (25-9), while falling to Central Catholic (25-22).
“I think we did well,” Morgan City coach Christy Theriot said. “We’re definitely progressing. I thought we looked good. We hustled. We didn’t let the balls hit the floor. You saw a few connections. ... (We) do have some things to work on, consistent serving, we picked up on tips at the end but got to read them from the beginning, but overall, I thought they all did well.”
Berwick defeated Central Catholic (25-21) and Patterson (25-10), but fell to Highland Baptist (25-20).
“Overall, pleased,” Berwick coach Heather Templet said of her team’s performance. “We saw some things that we need to work on. Still working on finding that starting rotation. Very pleased with the outcome against Central. We showed up. We were showing the fight. We pulled that one out. Then we ended it on a good note with Patterson.”
In addition to the win against Morgan City (25-22) and the loss to Berwick (25-21), Central Catholic defeated Franklin 25-7.
“It was up and down. … It was (a) roller coaster, and we can’t enter into our season Monday against Vandebilt Catholic, who has always been a powerhouse, the way we played today,” Central Catholic coach Latashia Wise said of her team’s performance Thursday. “We’re going to have to step it up big time. We got some things we’re going to work on (today) in practice to get ready for Vandebilt, but overall, I think it was maybe a ‘B-C’ performance. It’s still real early. It’s still jamboree, one set, not really having the whole set to go to give everything you have, but I think overall, we did OK.”
Patterson topped West St. Mary but fell to Berwick (25-10) and Morgan City (25-9). No score was available from the West St. Mary contest, and coach Chasity Toups could not be reached for comment this morning.
