Turnovers hurt Morgan City in 49-28 loss to South Terrebonne

Morgan City couldn’t overcome turnovers in a 49-28 District 7-4A loss to South Terrebonne Friday at Tiger Stadium in Morgan City.
South Terrebonne also rolled up 314 yards rushing to secure the Gator’s first victory this season.
“It’s a lot better feeling than what we’ve been facing, you know," South Terrebonne Coach Richard Curlin said. “We made some plays when we had to make some plays. We got some interceptions when we needed to get some interceptions. I thought Morgan City played hard, but we made the plays that we needed to get the win. It was just an overall team effort.”
After a 21-minute delay for a blown transformer, both teams lit up the scoreboard with 48 first-half points. South Terrebonne led 27-21 at halftime before pulling away in the fourth quarter.
“We were able to keep our defense off the field in the first half by making some first downs,” Morgan City Coach Scott Tregle said. “We moved the ball pretty well, but as usual, we couldn’t overcome turnovers and that allowed their bigger offensive line to wear us down late.”
Morgan City had four turnovers: three interceptions and a fumble.
The Tigers fell to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in district, while South Terrebonne improved to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.
The Tigers had 229 yards of offense (189 passing and 40 rushing).
Alex Brocato and Isaiah Escort saw time at quarterback for Morgan City. Brocato was 5 of 14 passing for 109 yards with a score and two interceptions, while Escort was 4 of 5 passing for 80 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Ke’Sean Francois had six catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns for Morgan City, while Kalen Hillen had two catches for 65 yards and a score.
Running back Logan Melancon led South Terrebonne with 164 yards rushing on 25 carries with three touchdowns.
Quarterback Andre Blanchard completed 4 of 8 passes for 84 yards and a score.
Fullback Louis Blanchard had two short touchdown runs.
The Tigers visit Vandebilt Catholic next week, while the Gators will host Ellender.
“It’s always the same battle for us because of our lack of size on the O- and D-lines,” Tregle said. “If we can move the ball and protect our defense, then we have a chance to win.”
