Vandebilt Catholic edges MCHS in overtime, 73-72

Morgan City High School fell to Vandebilt Catholic, 73-72 in overtime in District 7-4A action Tuesday in Morgan City.
The teams played an extra period after Vandebilt, who trailed 53-51 heading into the fourth quarter, outscored Morgan City 14-12 in the final period to end regulation tied at 65.
In overtime, Vandebilt outscored Morgan City, 8-7.
Vandebilt led 16-8 after the first quarter, while Morgan City came back in the second quarter, outscoring the Terriers 26-17 for a 34-33 halftime advantage.
The Tigers extended their lead to 53-51 following a 19-18 scoring edge in the third quarter.
Makye Richard led Morgan City with 30 points, while Taaj Daniels added 23.
Other scorers included Tywan Walker, 13, and Jared Singleton and Abram Hartley, three points apiece.
Morgan City had six three-pointers in the loss, while Vandebilt Catholic had nine treys.
Morgan City (12-12 overall, 1-3 in district) will return to action Friday when it travels to face Assumption in a District 7-4A contest set for 7 p.m.
CCHS tops
Ascension Episcopal
Central Catholic won its third straight contest with a 40-30 victory against Ascension Episcopal in District 7-1A action in Morgan City Tuesday.
Central Catholic led 8-4 after a quarter, 13-12 at the half and 27-23 after three quarters.
Jalen Johnson led Central Catholic with 16 points.
Other scorers included Elijah Swan, eight; Blake Byrne, seven; Davidyionne Bias, four; Tanner Wiggins, three; and Brooks Thomas, two.
Central Catholic (6-11, 4-3) will return to action Friday when it hosts Lafayette Christian in District 7-1A action. Lafayette Christian enters the contest as the top team in Class 1A, according to the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings.
Patterson tops Franklin
The Patterson Lumberjacks remained undefeated in District 8-3A play with a 72-53 victory against Franklin on the road Tuesday.
Nehemiah Augustus led four Patterson players in double figures with 13 points.
Other scorers included Taylan Grogan, Kenneth Washington and Jordan Butler with 11 points apiece, D.J. Jones, eight; Tyric Garrett, seven; Khyri Harris, five; Kobe Gray, four; and Dajon Richard, two.
Patterson’s next game, a District 8-3A contest at Kaplan, has been moved up a day from Tuesday to Monday.
Boys’ varsity action will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Berwick falls to
North Vermilion
The Berwick Panthers dropped a District 8-3A contest to North Vermilion, 52-34, in Maurice Tuesday.
Audwin Williams led Berwick with 15 points.
Other scorers included Travis Whitehead, seven; Donald Tillman, six; and Josh Carver, five.
Berwick (14-11, 3-3) will return to action Friday when it travels to face Franklin High in a 7:45 p.m. contest.
