The Franklin Lady Hornets defeated the Patterson Lady Lumberjills 38-35 in the District 8-3A opener Tuesday at the FSHS Gym.
Franklin benefited from a strong second quarter surge to take a 20-14 advantage, replacing a 7-5 deficit in the first quarter. The Lady Hornets clung to a 27-25 lead at the end of three quarters. Down the stretch, the Lady Hornets outpointed the LumberJills by an 11-10 margin en route to the 38-35 league win.
Leading scorers for Franklin were Sta’Trail Butler with 11 points on 5 field goals, including four deuces and one trey. Kenyoda Cormier tossed in 10 points on 3 2-pointers, 1 3-pointer and 1 of 7 free throws. Jazmine Byers finished with 9 points on 3 field goals and 3 of 6 free throws. Kaira Butler fired in 8 points on 4 field goals.
Leading scorer for the Lady Jills was Makayla Ruiz with 22 points.
Next the Lady Hornets will travel to Cecilia tomorrow for a varsity only game at 5.

Centerville built an early lead of which it never relinquished in seizing a 92-66 win over the Franklin Hornets Tuesday at the FSHS Gym.
Centerville improves to 6-2 on the season. Franklin is now 3-12.
Centerville jumped out front by a 26-14 lead. Franklin went on a 23-19 second quarter spurt to trim Centerville advantage to 45-37.
The red-hot Centerville Bulldogs stretched their lead to 66-48 in the third quarter thanks to a 21-11 run. Down the stretch, CHS went on a 26-18 flurry for the 92-66 win.
Jaylon Williams led the Bulldogs in scoring with 7-2’s, 4-3’s, 7 of 8 free throw for a game-high 33 points.
Jackson Hebert tossed in 21 points on 3-2’s and 5-3’s.
Marquis Strawder drained 18 points on 6-2’s and 6 of 9 freebies.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs were Lance Howard with on 1-2 and 4 for 4 charity shots and Ryan Young with one trey for 3 points.
Kevin Ina led the Hornets in scoring with 5-2’s, 3-3’s and 4 of 7 free throws for 23 points.
Dwonyell Charles poured in 20 points on 7-2’s, 1-3, 3 of 4 freebies. Jarius Boyd connected on 3-2’s for 6 points while Brayden Ward bagged 2-2’s and 1 of 1 free throws for 5 points. Josh Parker tossed on a pair of field goals for points while Tronyante Clark canned 2-2’ for 4 points with Jabari Daye and Tylon Ireland scoring 2 points apiece.

The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers eased past the Jeanerette Lady Tigers 51-24 Tuesday at the Billy Gene Talbot Gymnasium.
Hanson (13-1, 1-0) seized control early, building a 26-2 halftime cushion.
Hanson, which dominated from the opening tap, secured a 12-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Hanson flexed its muscles to the tune of a 14-0 second quarter flurry for the 26-2 lead at intermission.
Hanson outscored Jeanerette by a 16-12 margin in the third quarter for an insurmountable 42-14 advantage.
Jeanerette managed to outpoint Hanson by a slim 10-9 margin in the fourth quarter but it was too late as the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers notched the 51-24 triumph.
Hanson’s Carlie Pellerin tossed in 13 points along with one rebound, three assists and two steals.
Casey Fitzgerald finished with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Allyssa Young tossed in eight points while hauling in 10 rebounds with one assists, two steals and 2 blocks.
Noel Baker poured in 6 points along with 13 rebounds and one assist.
Sarah Daniel bagged 4 points while grabbing 3 rebounds and 1 steal.
Rounding out the scoring for the Hanson Lady Tigers were: Olivia St. Blanc, three points and Rosemary Collery, 2 points.
Hanson will play host to Guedyan in District 7-1A action Friday at 6 p.m. at the Billy Gene Talbot Gym.
