West St. Mary wins nail-biter over Abbeville, 34-32
BALDWIN _ Tywan Polidore scored the winning basket on a bank shot with 8.9 seconds remaining, lifting the West St. Mary Wolfpack to a nail-biting 34-32 win over the Abbeville Wildcats here Tuesday at the West St. Mary High School Gymnasium.
In the waning moments of the hard-fought contest, Poledore went to the glass for a bank shot after hauling in a dart from Chris Snowden with the clock showing 8.9 seconds, giving the Wolfpack the narrow 34-32 victory.
West St. Mary broke a 34-34 knot on Poledore’s game-winning shot.
The Wolfpack opened with a 10-7 lead before taking a 20-17 into the locker room at intermission after both teams poured in 10 points apiece in the second quarter.
Abbeville managed to outpoint West St. Mary by an 11-7 margin in the third period, giving the Wildcats a slim 28-27 advantage heading into the final period.
In the fourth period, the Wolfpack used a 7-4 edge to pull out the hotly-contested 34-32 comeback victory.
Duante Charles led the Wolfpack with 11 points on three treys and 2 of 2 freebies.
Poledore fired in 10 points on four field goals and 2 of 3 free throws. Other top scorers for West St. Mary were: Dondre Johnson, 4; Wayne Armelin, 4; Chris Snowden, 3 and Oshay Phillips, 2.
J. Decour led Abbeville with 14 points on five field goals and 4 of 6 free throws.
The Wolfpack will play host to Catholic High School of New Iberia next Tuesday in district action.
ABBEVILLE LADY WILDCATS 26, WEST ST. MARY LADY WOLFPACK 20
The Abbeville Lady Wildcats held on for a 26-20 win over the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack Tuesday at the West St. Mary High School Gym.
The Lady Wolfpack will travel to face Jeanerette on Friday in District 2-A action.
