WHS slips by Franklin

The Franklin Senior High School Hornets came up on the short end a 12-6 to the Westgate Tigers Friday at J. C. Dry Stadium in an emotionally-charged contest.
Franklin (0-2) had any chance of pulling off a huge upset dashed with the final 1:02 remaining on the clock.
With the possibility of a late-game victory hanging in the balance, the Hornets drove the ball down to the Tigers’ 15-yard line.
In a defensive struggle, Franklin’s defense forced Westgate to punt with 3:35 showing on the clock.
Franklin’s offense took over with quarterback David Kinchen darted for consecutive three-yard gains before a face-mask penalty against Westgate set up the Hornets with a first and 10 at the 35.
On first-and-10, Franklin leading ground gainer De’John Parker plowed for 20 yards down to the 15-yard line.
On four consecutive plays, the Westgate defense stiffened, stopping Franklin’s Avontre Perro on fourth down as the Tigers took control.
Westgate (1-1) dented the scoring column with a five-yard touchdown run by Raemon Guidry with 10:23 showing in the first quarter for a 6-0 advantage.
On the ensuing kickoff, Kyran Webb set up the Hornets in scoring position with an 80-yard return, bringing the ball to rest at the Westgate 7-yard line.
On third and goal, Franklin’s Perro raced around left end for the touchdown, tying the game at 6-6 with 9:56 showing on the clock.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Tigers went ahead by a 12-0 margin when Gerald Broussard hit paydirt from 1-yard out, sending WHS outfront by a 12-6 margin.
Parker led the Hornets in rushing with 19 carries for 84 yards while LaDarrius Davis picked up 19 yards on nine attempts. David Kinchen had 12 carries for 22 yards while Perro finished with 15 yards on five totes and one touchdown. Devynn Armstead also had four carries for 8 yards.
Allen Randle completed one pass for 18 yards with Kinchen connecting on one pass for three yards and Tre’Vions Rouchon connecting on one pass for nine yards.
David Kichen led the Hornets in receiving with two receptions for 27 yards while DeAndre Charles made one grab for 3 yards.
Franklin (0-2) will travel to New Orleans to take on McMain on Saturday at 7 p.m. at City Park.
