4-H cookery, pumpkin contest results announced

The St. Mary Parish 4-H Harvest Cookery Contest was held Oct. 12. Participants were also able to compete in a decorated pumpkin contest in which pumpkins could be carved, painted or decorated.
While the judging of entries took place, 4-H’ers took part in the 4-H Amazing Race with different educational stations around the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin. Assisting LSU AgCenter agents were 4-H Junior Leaders who also entertained younger 4-H members by dancing and exercising.
The cookery contest is divided into five commodity categories — beef, eggs, poultry, seafood and sugar. A new pork category was added for the parish level only.
The contest requires 4-H’ers to prepare a dish from scratch that meets the requirements in each category.
Agents expressed thanks to judges and volunteers who generously volunteered time.
