Lou’s Line Dancers provided entertainment during the St. Mary AARP Dec. 1 meeting. They performed several Christmas-themed dances.

AARP holds December meeting

On Dec. 1, St. Mary AARP had its meeting and dinner chaired by President Curtis Leonard.
Teche Regional Medical Center sponsored the meal of roast beef, salad and peas. The cooking crew of Mac and Myrt McNemar, and Billy and Judy Giroir prepared the meal.
Guest speaker for the evening was Dr. Nicholas Sells, an infectious disease specialist. Sells has an office in Morgan City.
Entertainment was provided by Lou’s Line Dancers. They performed Christmas themed-dances.
Going along with meeting’s Christmas theme, the AARP board of directors sang Christmas carols and was joined by the members in attendance.
The monthly “meet the board” featured Peggy Verrett. Among her many tasks, Verrett works at the AARP office every Monday along with working all the bingo games every Wednesday.
She has been a member of St Mary AARP for more than 20 years and has been on the board for more than 2 years.
In other business news:
—The AARP Smart Driver Course will be on Jan. 15, 2015.
—The next Community Action Agency senior meal will be on Jan. 13, 2015.
—The St. Mary AARP New Year’s Eve Dance will feature music by LA South.
—On Jan. 20, the chapter meal will be held at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City.
—Members were also reminded to sign up for the various trips taking place in 2015. Check with the office for more information.
The next meeting will be on Jan. 5 sponsored by Lirette Motors. Attendees will be served meat sauce spaghetti.
Club members extended everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
