AARP meeting features magical guest

On July 7, St. Mary AARP held its monthly meeting and dinner at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center, home of St. Mary AARP, in Morgan City.
Highlight of the evening was entertainment by local magician Glenn Ghirardi. He wowed members with tricks involving doves appearing from nowhere and a newspaper that appeared to hold water without getting wet.
DSF Wealth Management sponsored the meal of red beans, rice and sausage. Meal cooks were Floyd and Shirley Hymel, Carol and Hubert Francis, Sterling and Pat Fryou, and Jimmy Couvillier.
Meal sponsors Robert Marcel and Brittany Loupe addressed members following the meal.
St. Mary AARP President Curtis Leonard chaired the meeting with Treasurer AnnEtta Lombardo providing the opening prayer.
Announcements included:
—The next chapter meal is July 22 at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City.
—The next smart driving course will be on Aug. 16.
—Weekly bingo sessions held at the St. Mary Senior Centers at 11 a.m. every Wednesday. It is open to anyone 21 and older, as well as members.
The next St. Mary AARP meeting is Aug. 4. A meal of fried fish, white beans and rice will be served. Entertainment will be by the St Mary AARP Player’s Club. They will perform their latest comedic play titled “The Golden Years.”
