Bayou Vista Garden Club begins 2015-16 season

“Working Together” is the theme for the Bayou Vista Garden Club 2015-16 session.
Club yearbooks were distributed by chairman Janice Verret. Projects, activities and upcoming events were reviewed by President Donna Bucci and committee chairmen.
Kim Alcina, Environmental Awareness chairman, displayed a hanging planter of recycled materials. It featured a piece of fence using a garbage can lid which was aged using a vinegar and water technique. The coconut grass planter was filled with ivy, impatiens and succulents. Alcina’s focus for upcycling during 2015-16 is to make planters using recycled items.
Bucci served as hostess chairman. Members provided the meal.
The floral design, “Welcome Autumn,” was created by Bucci, The pottery container was filled with sunflowers, chrysanthemum, carnations, liriope, and foliage and berries of begonia, Indian hawthorn and ligustrum. The focal point of the design was dried philodendron root.
Bucci announced that the club’s Trash to Treasure and Plant Sale will be held Oct. 24.
The Louisiana Garden Club Federation District 3 meeting will be sponsored by the Terrebonne Garden Club on Oct. 15 in Houma.
Verret was the door prize winner.
The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Bayou Vista Community Center. New members are welcome.
