Bayou Vista Garden Club partners with Aucoin Elementary

Bayou Vista Garden Club Adopt-A-School Chairman Donna Richard presented a gardening program to the J.S. Aucoin Elementary School Lion Garden Club.
She provided information on seasonal planting of vegetables, sowing seeds in starter pots, and gardening maintenance; which included light and water requirements. Activity sheets, two watering cans and carrot seeds were given to the Lion Garden Club.
J.S. Aucoin, in Amelia, received a grant from the LSU Ag Center for the school garden. LSU AgCenter Area Nutritionist Agent Jessica Randazzo was present to advise and to determine materials required for the grant.
Bayou Vista Garden Club also donated several books and posters to the school’s library. These resources were provided to the garden club by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation.
The books donated were “Louisiana Hummingbirds;” “Growing Vegetable Soup;” and “Leaf Key, an ID of Common Louisiana Trees.” The posters donated were Louisiana Native Plants, Blooms of Louisiana Forests, Fruits of Louisiana Forests, Leaves of Louisiana Forests, Common Forest Plants of Louisiana, and Features of Louisiana Forest Plants.
