Birthday and anniversary celebrants were recognized during the St. Mary AARP meeting. The meeting was May 5 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City. The next meeting is June 2.

Clement named AARP mom queen

Jeannie Clement was crowned St. Mary AARP Mother’s Day Queen during the organization’s May 5 meeting. The honor was bestowed through a drawing.
Featured speaker for the meeting, chaired by President Curtis Leonard, was Dr. Francis Metz III of Teche Regional Medical Center. Metz spoke about Teche Regional’s Rehab Center and the importance of seeking immediate help if experiencing stroke symptoms.
Other speakers included meeting sponsor Leonard Klutts, owner of Klutts Jewelers; Ed Selser, Atchafalaya at Idlewild Golf Course representative; and Judith Allain, Teche Arts Council representative.
The meal of meat sauce spaghetti was prepared by the crew of Myrt and Mac McNemar, and Billy and Judy Giroir. Lou’s Line Dancers provided the evening’s entertainment.
Announcements included:
—Those wishing to participate in St. Mary AARP sponsored trips need to put a $100 deposit to reserve a waiting-list spot.
—The Phil Haney Educational Seminar is June 10 at Cypress Bayou Casino in Charenton. Admission is free but pre-registration is necessary. Call the St. Mary AARP office at 985-384-2277 for more information.
—The next St. Mary AARP meeting is June 2 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center. The meal will be hot dogs, chili and watermelon sponsored by A&M Cooling and Quality Diesel Service. Monthly meetings/dinners are free to all St. Mary AARP members.
