Fall garden workshop series starts Sept. 30

HAMMOND — The LSU AgCenter and the Tangipahoa Parish Master Gardeners Association have scheduled a fall garden workshop series on Sept. 30, Oct. 28 and Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the AgCenter’s Hammond Research Station.
Each workshop will cover topics from fall vegetable gardening tips, container gardening ideas, Louisiana Super Plants for fall, winter planting for pollinators and bees, monarchs and milkweeds and ending with native trees for Louisiana, according to LSU AgCenter agent Whitney Wallace.
“We will have horticulture and landscape professionals on hand providing the latest research-based information to help you get prepared for your fall and winter gardens,” Wallace said. “We will also provide light refreshments.”
The Sept. 30 workshop will feature getting the most from your fall and winter gardens, container gardening ideas, fruit tree inspiration, success with strawberries in the home garden and Louisiana Super Plants for fall and winter planting. The deadline to register is Sept. 25.
The Oct. 28 workshop will feature pollinators and bees, monarchs and milkweeds and hummingbird haven. The deadline to register is Oct. 23.
The Nov. 18 workshop will feature great native trees for Louisiana, caring for and the value of trees in the landscape, registering a live oak and champion trees. The deadline to register is Nov. 13.
The Hammond Research Station is located at 21549 Old Covington Highway (La. 1067), east of Hammond.
