Homebuyers, Culinary grads walk June 17 in Franklin

Almetra J. Franklin, St. Mary Community Action Agency chief executive officer, has announced the graduation ceremony for the Homebuyers and Culinary participants will be at 6 p.m. June 17. The graduation will take place at St. Mary Community Action’s central office located at the Peter Pan Gymnasium at 1407 Barrow St. in Franklin. A short reception immediate follows.
Homebuyers participants successfully completed a five-week course which provided them with information and resources about becoming a homeowner. The course covers information from how to shop for the right home, understanding a credit report, types of mortgage loans, how to save, how to budget, and many other topics.
This allows homebuyers to get a solid foundation before purchasing their first home, said Franklin.
Culinary participants successfully completed a five-week class in which participants learned and mastered necessary skills to acquire permanent jobs in the food industry. This initiative is funded through the Community Foundation of Acadiana Fund for Gulf Communities grant.
The goal for the initiative is to promote healthy thriving families in St. Mary and Vermilion parishes, Franklin said.
