Louisiana Agriculture in the Classroom presented at Maitland

As part of the Louisiana Agriculture in the Classroom program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, volunteer readers receive a free book in exchange for reading it to students and donating the book to the classroom. All pre-K-3 classes at Julia B. Maitland School in Morgan City listened to this year’s book, “Exploring Louisiana Agriculture.” Shown is Bayou Vista Garden Club Youth Chairman Ann Breaux reading to students in Rebecca Nguyen’s class at Maitland. The USDA’s goal is to help students gain a greater awareness of the role of agriculture in the economy and society, so that they may become citizens who support wise agricultural policies.
