Birthdays and anniversaries were celebrated at the Sept. 8 St. Mary AARP meeting.

St. Mary AARP meeting held Sept. 8

St. Mary AARP held its monthly meeting and dinner on Sept. 8 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City.
Members were treated to a meal of fried shrimp, potato salad and peas sponsored by State Sen. Brett Allain, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, and the Committee to Elect Dean Wattigny. The meal was cooked Myrt McNemar and the Craig and Winnie Theriot cooking team.
Meeting speakers were Janice Willoughby, of Teche Action Clinic; Chris Broussard, of Teche Regional Rehab; and the meal sponsors.
St. Mary AARP President Curtis Leonard made several announcements that included the next Smart Driver course set for Nov. 20 and the chapter meal on Sept. 23 at the Forest Restaurant in Franklin.
Members were also reminded about planned upcoming trips. The Branson, Missouri, trip is Nov. 16 to 20 with a few spots remaining. On Jan. 25, a 7-day-cruise to Key West and the Bahamas will depart from New Orleans. In May 2015, a trip is planned to Niagra Falls. Other trips for 2015 are in the planning stage.
The next St. Mary AARP meeting will be held Oct. 6. Walgreens will be on hand to give flu shots. A meal of meatloaf and potatoes will be served.
