Birthday and anniversary celebrants were recognized during the St. Mary AARP August meeting.

St. Mary AARP presents scholarships

On Aug. 4, St. Mary AARP held its meeting and dinner at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center.
St. Mary Parish President Paul Naquin and Parish Councilmen Kevin Voisin and Sterling Fryou sponsored the meeting’s meal. The meal of fried catfish and white beans and rice was prepared by Sterling and Pat Fryou, Floyd and Shirley Hymel, and Carol and Hubert Francis. Sponsors addressed the crowd following dinner.
St. Mary AARP President Curtis Leonard presided for the meeting in which the 2014 St. Mary AARP scholarship awards were presented. Scholarship committee members Helen Ross and Lydia Landry presented the scholarships to Logan Scully, a Morgan City High School graduate, and Bobby Boudreaux, a Berwick High School graduate.
Entertainment for the evening was by the St. Mary AARP Players. They performed a play titled “The Golden Years” written by Curtis Leonard and directed by AnnEtta Lombardo.
The next St. Mary AARP meeting will be held Sept. 8 instead of the first Monday of the month. A meal of fried shrimp will be sponsored by State Sen. Brett Allain, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, and the Committee to Elect Dean Wattigny.
