Morgan City woman jailed for striking girl, 13

A 42-year-old woman was jailed Thursday after she was accused of striking a 13-year-old girl at a Morgan City residence, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
Rebecca A. Martin, 42, of Allison Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:13 p.m. Thursday for simple battery of a juvenile and appearing in an intoxicated condition.
Officers were dispatched to a disturbance at an Allison Street residence. Officers learned that Martin, who was intoxicated, became involved in an altercation with a juvenile, Banks said. Martin is accused of striking the 13-year-old girl and was jailed.
Banks also reported the following arrests:
—Katie M. Smith, 18, of Jackson Street in Franklin, was arrested at 9:24 a.m. Thursday for domestic abuse battery.
Officers were dispatched to the 7100 block of La. 182 for a domestic disturbance. Officers were advised that a male and female had become involved in an altercation that turned into a physical confrontation, Banks said. Officers learned that Smith struck the man, Banks said. She was jailed.
—Dewayne Williams, 50, of Lockley Street in Baldwin, was arrested at 6:57 p.m. Thursday for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
An officer responded to a minor vehicle crash in the area of Fifth and Duke streets. He was jailed and released after posting cash bail. There were no injuries in the accident, Banks said.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said his department responded to 36 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Coset Abrahante, 29, of the 700 block of St. Luke Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:20 a.m. Thursday for theft more than $300.
—Teresita Rodriguez Pavato, 48, of the 200 block of Amelia Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:20 a.m. Thursday for theft more than $300.
A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista where he learned from store security that Abrahante and Pavato were captured on surveillance video taking items out of packages and concealing them in their purses and pockets. Both were released on summonses to appear in court Oct. 13.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Rachel Rodriguez, 28, of the 200 block of Pecos Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:23 a.m. today for driving while intoxicated first offense and careless operation. Rodriguez was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Jeremy Smith, 27, of the 700 block of Utah Street in Berwick, was arrested at 1:26 p.m. Thursday for disturbing the peace and domestic abuse battery. Smith was jailed.
