‘Art of Respect’ in Patterson April 8

The South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority will hold the Art of Respect, a day devoted to celebrating the gifts and friendship of Louisiana citizens who live with intellectual, developmental and/or physical disabilities.
On April 7-10 SCLHSA and multiple agencies around a seven parish catchment area will be hosting the Art of Respect events in Terrebonne, Lafourche, St. Charles, Assumption and St. Mary parishes from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The local venue is the Patterson Civic Center on April 8.
Brittany’s Project of Franklin is among those supporting the program.
Organizers say the event is intended to show Louisiana what acceptance, inclusion, friendship, unity and respect look like through art.
Each day during the week individuals will be creating art projects to help celebrate “The Art of Respect.” Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on what the words “acceptance,” “inclusion,” “unity,” “friendship” and “respect” mean to them.
Following the event a local community artist will assess all artwork, select pieces for individual display and use the other artwork to create a large composite piece of art that can travel to local communities for shows and receptions.
