3 finalists for Lafayette Parish superintendent

St. Mary Parish Superintendent Donald Aguillard is one of three finalists who have applied for the Lafayette superintendent’s post. And the St. Mary School Board wants to be ready in case it must choose Aguillard’s successor.
The board will conduct a special meeting at 4 p.m. today at the Central Office Complex in Centerville. On the agenda:
—The possible employment of Hammond & Sills to conduct a superintendent search.
—Approval to advertise for a superintendent search.
—Approval of the timeline and publishers for the advertisement.
—Approval of the application for superintendent.
Aguillard, East Baton Rouge Associate Superintendent Carlos Sam and Francis Touchet, a state Department of Education official, are the three Lafayette finalists. The board plans to interview them April 22.
Aguillard has long ties to Lafayette, where he has served as a teacher, Carencro High’s principal and one of four area directors. He has been the St. Mary superintendent since April 2004.
Aguillard applied for the previous Lafayette superintendent opening in 2011, but withdrew his name.
