Allain: Special budget session is a necessity

State Sen. Bret Allain, R-Franklin, says the Legislature will have to hold a special session next year solely to focus on the 2016 proposed budget to iron out budget issues before the regular session.
During Monday’s St. Mary Parish Council of Governments meeting, Allain said state legislators have a tough task ahead of them to fix the state’s budget issues. In 2016, the Legislature will have to hold a special session “just to deal with the budget” ahead of the regular session, Allain said.
Allain has been on the Senate finance committee four years, and every year legislators have faced shortfalls when putting together the budget, he said.
“There’s some structural changes we absolutely have to make,” Allain said.
