Art class schedules released; Art Walk deadline extended

The Bayou Beaux Art and Dance Summer Arts Program will begin in June.
Registration for the art portion of the program will be May 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Hall. The fee of $20 per person per class is due the day of registration and is non-refundable. The fee will be used to offset the cost of supplies. All participants must be at least 13 years old.
Students who have taken formal art lessons, have participated in the summer art program, or have talent or expertise in art should take the intermediate classes. The beginner classes are for those with little to no experience in visual art and those who have not participated in the summer art program.
The beginner schedule is as follows:
—Drawing taught by Jeanne Wattigny: June 1, 2 and 3 from 1-4 p.m.
—Watercolors taught by Marissa Verrette: June 6, 7 and 8 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
—Acrylics taught by Laura Zuniga: June 15, 16 and 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The intermediate schedule is as follows
—Portraits taught by Marissa Verrette: June 1, 2 and 3 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
—Drawing taught by Jon Eenigenberg: June 7, 8 and 9 form 5-8 p.m.
—Acrylics taught by Laura Zuniga: June 22, 23 and 24 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“We have a new instructor who will teach two new classes. I hope students are looking forward to these offerings this summer,” Mayor Raymond Harris said.

The Bayou Beaux Arts and Dance Program is supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts and by a Community Partnership Grant from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Foundation.
The Art Walk deadline has been extended to May 20 at noon. The Seventh Annual Art Walk will be Saturday, June 11 from 3-6 p.m. on Main Street. All attendees are asked to wear pastel colors to the Art Walk. Participating artists and authors must be at least 18 years old.
The Art Walk is an event that upholds the mission of the Franklin Main Street Program, which is “to promote and create a positive image of our Main Street as a place to dine, shop, build a sense of place, and nurture community.”
