Back-to-school events underway in Tri-City area

Back-to-school events are slated in the Tri-City area in preparation for the first day of school Aug. 6.
On Saturday, Word of Life Family Church in Patterson will hold its 12th Back To School giveaway from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Children must be present to receive a free school uniform and shoes, and free school supplies such as pencils, pens, paper, colors and glue. All items and sizes are while supplies last.
Word of Life Family Church is located at 108 Ryan Drive.
Two events are slated on Aug. 1 in Patterson.
From 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 1, Hattie Watts Elementary, Patterson Junior High and Patterson High School will hold a Stuff the Bus event at the Family Dollar parking lot on Catherine Street. Supplies donated will be used for students at the three schools.
Suggested items to donate include notebooks, pencils, erasers, bleach wipes, loose-leaf paper, copy paper, markers, colored pencils, glue, glue sticks, facial tissue and paper towels. Hattie Watts’ needs also include boys and girls socks, underwear and belts. PJHS and PHS also need binders, dry erase markers, belts and feminine products.
That same day from 1 to 4 p.m., New Salem Baptist Church will hold its Uniforms for School Kids event.
School uniforms and supplies will be distributed at the church located at 1412 Cherry St. while sizes and supplies last.
A supply drive Tuesday at Courtesy Toyota in Morgan City helps students get the gear they need to go back to school.
