CAA collecting school supplies across parish

St. Mary Community Action Agency launched its 2015-16 school supplies, uniform drive Wednesday by placing the first drop off box at the Dollar General Store located at 300 Joe Hoy Drive in Franklin.
Other boxes will be placed in various businesses throughout St. Mary Parish. The “Stuff the Box” School Supply Drive is St. Mary CAA/Head Start Program’s annual event to assure that all pre-school children have everything required to commence the school year.
The agency collects navy blue pants, shorts, dresses, skirts and white shirts (polo style, T-shirt with short or long sleeves), and school supplies including construction paper, box of 16 colors; Fiskar scissors, glue-bottles, liquid hand soap, Kleenex; washable markers, paper towels, doodle pad and book sacks.
Almetra J. Franklin, St. Mary CAA CEO, said these donations will greatly enhance St. Mary CAA’s efforts to help parents prepare their children for school.
St. Mary CAA is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt, human service organization that has been in existence since 1967. St. Mary CAA maintains and operates 18 facilities, including 13 Head Start Centers. The Head Start program services are free and open to all children ages 3-5 years old that meet the current approved income guidelines.
