Candidate announcements: Beryl Amedee

Terrebonne Parish Councilwoman Beryl Amedee, R-Gray, has announced that she will challenge incumbent Joe Harrison for the state House of Representatives District 51 seat.
Amedee is lifelong resident of Terrebonne and a small business owner. She is a former council chairwoman and served as zoning and planning commissioner.
“The hardworking taxpayers of District 51 deserve a hardworking representative who is in tune with their concerns and dedicated to getting things done,” she said.
Councilwoman Amedee is known as a pro-life, pro-family, pro-business Conservative, who wholeheartedly supports our U.S. Constitution. She believes life should be protected from conception to natural death, and that parents have the God-given authority and responsibility to provide for their children and to make decisions concerning their upbringing, medical care and education without government interference. She recognizes that the “right to bear arms” is a right, not a privilege.
“Businesses create real wealth. Government consumes it. We cannot spend our way out of a declining economy. We are taxed enough already!” Amedee says. “Tax reform is needed so that we can simplify our current tax structure and create fairness. The taxpayers’ sweat and sacrifice are represented in those dollars and the government owes taxpayers the respect to spend resources wisely.”
Land loss is also one of Amedee’s top concerns. “We must remain focused on building levees to protect our people from the imminent threat of storm surge. At the same time, we must continue to implement sensible freshwater diversion projects to restore life to the marshlands. Coastal restoration and proper drainage are critical to protect the lives and properties of the citizens of District 51.”
Beryl Amedee is active in ministry at Vision Christian Center and has been married to her husband, John, for 32 years. They have raised three sons and are expecting their sixth grandchild.
