Conservation award

The St. Mary Soil and Water Conservation District’s Farmers and Ranchers fifth annual appreciation banquet was held on Sept. 23 at Cypress Bayou Casino. Herbert Breaux, a local sugar cane farmer, was presented the Conservationist of the Year Award and a key to St. Mary Parish. Mike Strain, Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture, presented the award. Along with his family, Breaux has successfully farmed in St. Mary Parish for over 50 years.
