Ex-councilman dies in single vehicle accident

A former St. Mary Parish councilman died Friday in a single vehicle accident on La. 87, according to reports from State Police Troop I.
 Chuck Rogers, 60, of New Iberia was found in his 1998 Nissan Maxima by a farmer at 7:30 a.m., Friday.
 According to investigating troopers, Rogers had been traveling south on La. 87 near La. 70 between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. when  for unknown reasons his vehicle traveled off the right side of the road in a curve, entered a water filled coulee and overturned. Rogers was not restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner.
Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
Rogers, a native of Franklin, served on the St. Mary Parish Council, 1988-1991, and also was a former sports editor for the Banner-Tribune.
