Head Start Awareness month observed

October is Head Start Awareness Month, a milestone for a program that began as a summer activity in 1965 and has evolved into a premier early childhood program, having served over 32 million children and families nationwide during its 50 years of service.
St. Mary Community Action Agency’s Head Start Program is celebrating this month with a variety of activities, including a Block Party on Oct. 14 at the West St. Mary Civic Center. This grand event includes our highly successful and innovative Fatherhood Initiative’s “Exercising with a Purpose,” where Head Start fathers/father figures will exercise with their children.
St. Mary CAA is also showcasing their transportation program, with a ride-along activity, where city and parish officials will be able to ride with transportation clients.
In recognition of the 50th anniversary, local government officials will sign a proclamation for Head Start Awareness month. The proclamation signing begins at 10 a.m. at the Baby Bear Head Start Center in Morgan City.
