Home destroyed in west St. Mary fire

A house in western St. Mary Parish was destroyed early Sunday, according to reports from Chief Clarence Clark of Fire Protection District 11.
District firefighters responded to the call at 1:11 a.m. and arrived at the 201 Higgins Lane residence at 1:18 a.m. to find heavy fire and smoke. No one was home at the time of the blaze and there were no injuries reported.
The district received mutual aid at the scene the Franklin, Baldwin, Chitimacha, Jeanerette, Cypremort Point and Grand Marais fire departments.
Clark said the fire was under control by 2:55 a.m. and firefighters remained on scene until 5:03 a.m. to perform salvage and overhaul.
 District 11 responded with four pumpers, one rescue unit and one service/tanker with 12 firefighters. In all 10 fire units, one AASI unit, two St. Mary Sheriff units and 25 firefighters responded.
