Infectious disease physician joins Teche Regional Medical Center staff
Nicholas Sells, M.D., an infectious disease and internal medicine physician, has joined Teche Regional Medical Center’s active medical staff, announced Butch Frazier, Teche Regional Medical Center chief executive officer.
Sells earned a bachelor of science in biology from the Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tenn. He received his medical doctorate from Medical University of the Americas, Charlestown, Nevis, West Indies. In addition he completed his internal medicine residency at Leonard J Chabert Medical Center in Houma before completing a fellowship in infectious disease at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Frazier said, “We are pleased to bring a physician of Dr. Sells’ caliber to our community. With the addition of the only infectious disease physician in our area, we are able to expand services in St. Mary Parish and beyond, keeping people at home for all their health care needs.”
Sells is American Board of Internal Medicine certified and provides treatment for a variety of conditions such as prevention, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, HIV care and management, the testing and treatment of viral hepatitis (Hepatitis A, B, C), travel and tropical medicine, skin, soft tissue, respiratory, and central nervous system infections, just to name a few.
Infectious disease specialists see patients in both the inpatient and outpatient arenas and provide comprehensive care for multiple diseases as well as facilitate outpatient IV antibiotic treatment for patients who require this service.
In addition, whether traveling to a business meeting in Asia, a big-game hunt in Africa, or a mission trip to Haiti, Sells is a travel medicine specialist that provides detailed individualized care plans to coincide with travel itinerary and offer various recommended vaccines for international travel.
Sells said, “It is an exciting time to be an infectious diseases specialist especially as treatments continue to improve dramatically. This is a new specialty in our primary service area and I am excited to bring this service to the people of St. Mary Parish and the surrounding areas.”
