Kits are potential lifesavers

During the 2016 National Police Week, the Morgan City Police Department received a commitment from Teche Regional Medical Center of Morgan City to supply all patrol officers of the Morgan City Police Department with emergency tactical medical kits. These kits have proven valuable in saving lives by providing emergency personnel with the ability to administer immediate wound care in an emergency. In fall 2015, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security launched a “Stop The Bleed” campaign after it was learned that techniques used by military personnel during deployment to the Middle East were instrumental in helping the injured after the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing. On Monday, Chief James F. Blair, center, along with CEO Butch Frazier and Sabrina Williams, director of marketing for Teche Regional Medical Center, received delivery of the “Officer Down Kits.” These kits are equipped with tourniquets, bandages and hemostatic dressings to aid in containing bleeding in victims. The ability to stop bleeding could be the difference in the precious few minutes after an injury.
