Lightning causes power outages across Morgan City

A lightning strike caused a citywide power outage Saturday evening in Morgan City that lasted about 30 minutes, according to Morgan City Utilities Director Bill Cefalu.
At about 6:15 p.m. Saturday, lightning struck the 138 kilovolt power line coming in from the circuit breaker at the Bayou Ramos Substation, Cefalu said.
The strike tripped the breaker, causing all of Morgan City to lose power. City officials made sure there were no wires down before calling Cleco dispatch to re-energize the power line, and power was restored to the area, he said.
