Making plans for Lighthouse event

The guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Bayouland Emergency Amateur Radio Service, or BEARS, was Jacki Ackel, Berwick Town Council member. The subject was planning for the second annual lighthouse event to be held at the Lighthouse Park on the riverfront in Berwick. This will mark the second year that the BEARS and the town of Berwick have worked together to put the Southwest Reef Lighthouse on the worldwide map. The international sponsor of this weekend is the International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend group headquartered in Australia. So far, there are 310 lighthouses manned by ham radio operators throughout the world that will be taking part in this event Aug. 15-16. The Berwick event will be much larger this year, and many plans are in the making now. Displaying QSL cards from other lighthouses from last year’s event are Deborah Price, Fred Marshall. Karen Marshall, Rudy Duchan, Guest Speaker Jacki Ackel, Frank Price, Jackie Price, Jarod Bourgeois and Tommy Wells.
