Minor injuries for child hit by police car

State police say an 11-year-old boy received minor injuries after being struck by a Patterson patrol unit Wednesday.
Eyewitness and video evidence indicate Officer Craig Verdine was driving “well below” the speed limit, according to Master Trooper Brooks David, Louisiana State Police Troop I spokesman.
David said two children ran across Red Cypress Road.
One looked before crossing and made it safely. The other didn’t look and was hit, he said.
The injured boy, whose name was not released, was crawfishing in a ditch at the corner of Red Cypress Road and Domino Drive with two other boys, Patterson Assistant Chief Gary Stevenson said.
The officer was driving down Red Cypress from U.S. 90 when the accident happened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
David said state police cleared Verdine of any wrongdoing in the accident.
