Morgan City High School library taking shape

Morgan City High School is in the midst of a $3.5 million construction project that includes a new library, media center, student commons and air conditioner renovations.
“It’s actually progressing quite nicely,” said Mickey Fabre, school principal. “Contractors are working very closely with the school to keep disruption to a minimum.”
Architect Carl Blum is overseeing the project with contractors Bonneval Construction and Bernhard Mechanical. On Tuesday, Bonneval superintendents Randy Horn and Ken Jennings along with Bernhard’s foreman Shannon Bertrand were busy with crews converting the former girls’ gym into the library and other spaces.
“We started three weeks ago,” said Horn of the progress.
Fabre said a set of old lockers were recently removed and new lockers will be moved from one wall and put in their place. That resulting empty wall will be removed to create a new hallway between the senior hall and the freshman hall. The new hallway area will also house a new set of restrooms.
The District III Maintenance Committee of the St. Mary Parish School Board will meet Thursday to discuss the project.
On the agenda for the 4:30 p.m. meeting is a presentation on the library’s furniture and interior finishing.
That meeting will be held at the Central Office Complex in Centerville and is followed at 5 p.m. by the regular monthly meeting of the school board.
At that meeting, the board will consider how to make up instructional days lost due to freezing precipitation Jan. 24, 28 and 29. Also, the board is slated to approve the 2014-15 school calendar.
Other items on the agenda include consideration of funding all buses with functioning cameras and presentation of the St. Mary Parish Students of the Year.
The school board will meet in executive session to determine what action should be taken in response to a study of its Section 16 lands.
