Morgan City narcotics suspect accused of damaging police car

A 30-year-old Morgan City man was caught with meth and cocaine Wednesday and then damaged the Plexiglass cage of a police unit after banging his head against it, Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. said in a news release.
—Therold James, 30, of Teche Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:23 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia third offense, possession of cocaine, resisting an officer and criminal damage to property.
Patrol officers received information of a vehicle with possible narcotics inside in the area of Federal Avenue and Egle Street, Griffin said. Officers were able to locate the vehicle fitting the description and made a traffic stop.
Officers asked the driver if the vehicle could be searched for illegal narcotics, and the driver stated that the owner of the vehicle was inside along with another passenger, Griffin said. Officers asked the owner and the other passenger, James, to step out of the vehicle.
The owner of the vehicle gave officers consent to search the vehicle, Griffin said. In the area where James was sitting, officers located a syringe, commonly used to inject narcotics, Griffin said. The officer then searched James and located suspected cocaine and methamphetamine on him, Griffin said. James began to resist, but was eventually subdued and placed into a police unit, Griffin said. Once in the unit, James began to bang his head on the Plexiglass cage inside the unit causing it to crack, Griffin said. James was jailed.
Griffin reported the following arrests:
—Heath Johnson, 45, of Lawrence Street in Morgan City, at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging him with telephone harassment.
Johnson was located in the of Sixth Street area. Officers knew of an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Johnson was jailed.
—Warren McLeod, 53, of New Orleans, at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday on the charges of disturbing the peace intoxicated and possession of marijuana.
—Sean Palmer, 42, of Flowood, Mississippi, at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
—Altie Drashner, 39, of Cripple Creek, Colorado, at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Morgan City Police received a complaint from Amtrak Train Services in reference to removing people from the train that were causing a disturbance.
The conductor stated that the train would be stopping in the area of Railroad and Ditch avenues, Griffin said.
When officers arrived, the conductor stated that the suspects were yelling and disturbing other passengers on board of the train, Griffin said.
The officers were led to the area of the train where the suspects were located, and McLeod, Palmer and Drashner all appeared to be highly intoxicated, Griffin said.
While being escorted off the train, McLeod stated that he had a “joint” in his pants pocket, Griffin said. The officer located the suspected marijuana and all three suspects were jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 48 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrest in east St. Mary Parish:
—John Taylor, 43, of the 100 block of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:37 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of aggravated second-degree battery and obstruction of justice.
A deputy received information from Morgan City police advising that they received a complaint of a battery that occurred at Taylor’s residence, Hebert said.
Deputies responded to the area and made contact with Taylor who repeatedly told deputies he was the person who was struck during a confrontation, Hebert said.
As the investigation continued, deputies learned that Taylor struck a male victim in the head with a hammer, Hebert said.
Taylor was jailed with no bail set.
—Iraneka J. Amos, 23, of the 1400 block of Canal Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 6:48 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of probation and on four warrants from Lafourche Parish for contempt of court.
A deputy made contact with Amos at her residence and learned of the active warrants for her arrest.
Amos was jailed with bail was set at $12,971.50.
—Bobby Mouton, 40, of Patterson, was additionally charged with threatening a public official at 3:04 p.m. Wednesday.
While being moved from a dorm, Mouton, an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, made threats against a jailer’s life. Mouton remains incarcerated.
—Keddrick Jones, 28, of the 400 block of Belanger Street in Morgan City, Law as arrested at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
During booking at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, a jailer located the active warrant for Jones’ arrest. No bail is set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
