Louisiana carver Cleo Scott’s works are to be exhibited at Louisiana State Museum-Patterson.

Patterson museum shows wildlife art by La. carver

“Cleo Scott: The Wildlife Carvings of a Louisiana Artist,” an exhibition of waterfowl decoys and life-sized sculptures of songbirds, opens with a reception at the Louisiana State Museum-Patterson from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The event is free and open to the public.
Scott was born in Memphis, Tenn., and moved to St. Mary Parish with his family in 1938 at age 5. After retirement from a career in law enforcement, Scott’s lifelong interest in hunting and fishing led him to decoy and wildlife carving, learning the art under master carver Carl Danos of Larose. Scott’s work has won numerous awards in wood-carving competitions. “Carving is satisfying,” he said. “If someone admires my work, it makes me happy.”
Featuring 25 finished works, and three unfinished works demonstrating Scott’s wood carving techniques, the exhibition will be on view through August 2014.
Located at 118 Cotten Road at U.S. 90, the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
