Pecantte announces candidacy for district judge in the 16th Judicial District, Division G

Long-time community activist and legal professional Lucretia Pecantte has announced her intention to seek election to the district judge position for the 16th Judicial District, Division G on July 15.
Her announcement included the following.
Inspired by her extensive experience, Pecantte will look to create a more transparent, community-oriented Division G office.
“I am thrilled to be in this race,” said Pecantte. “I believe that the role of judge is vital to society, and it is my hope that my service as judge will help give back to the community that has given me so much.”
Currently owning and operating her own practice in New Iberia, Pecantte’s legal experience spans the length of about 19 years. During her career, Pecantte has clerked under Hon. Charles Porter and the late Hon. Judge Carl Williams in the 16th Judicial District Court. She has also served in the 16th Judicial District Public Defender’s Office. It is this array of work experience and community exposure that Pecantte will look to bring to the bench.
“I believe that I am the most experienced candidate in this race,” Pecantte explains. “I’ve had the incredible opportunity to serve the community in a number of roles and across several parishes. Through both my professional and personal life, I’ve developed a deep understanding of our community’s greatest strengths and some of its most glaring weaknesses. I will look to take on these unique challenges as the District Judge for Division G.”
A true homegrown candidate, Pecantte was born and raised in Jeanerette. She attended Mt. Carmel Academy, received her bachelor of arts from Louisiana State University, and graduated with her juris doctorate from Southern University Law Center. Her community-oriented approach to her campaign and the office is due in part to her upbringing.
She is an active member at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville.
“This community is vitally important to me,” said Pecantte. “In addition to being an impartial decision maker, it is my goal to make the Division G office and the role of district judge more accessible. We must make the legal system more community-oriented, and I will look to do just that.”

The qualifying period is Aug. 20, 21 and 22.
Early voting is Oct. 21-28 (except Sunday) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Nov. 4 primary election.
Early voting for the Dec. 6 general election is Nov. 22-29 (except Sunday) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Elections on the St. Mary Parish ballot include U.S. senator, U.S. representative, court of appeal judge, district judges, district attorney, school board member, justice of the peace, constables; Morgan City city court judge, Morgan City city court marshal; Patterson mayor, Patterson chief of police, Patterson council; Berwick mayor, Berwick council; Franklin city court judge, Franklin city court marshal; and Baldwin mayor, Baldwin chief of police and Baldwin aldermen.
