Police seek gunman after Cypress Bayou shooting

A gunman is sought in a shooting at Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel.
Chitimacha Police Chief Hal Hutchinson said that at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday, Alfred Gabriel, 55, fired shots at his ex-girlfriend and her companion in the casino parking lot in Charenton.
According to a press release from the Chitimacha Police Department, no one was injured by the gunfire. The weapon was recovered, as well as other critical evidence, at the scene.
The vehicle Gabriel was driving was located abandoned several hours later near the St. Mary Co-Op sugar mill in Jeanerette.
Later that evening, the Chitimacha Police Department secured a search warrant for Gabriel’s last known address. Members of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, along with assistance from Franklin Police Department, made entry into the residence. Once the residence was secured Chitimacha police officers, with assistance from the State Police, secured valuable evidence.
The press release further stated that Gabriel is still at large and “will be aggressively sought out and arrested. Charges will also be pursued against anyone aiding Gabriel in his evasion of arrest.”
