Port aquires Superior Fab facility; new tenant coming

The Port of West St. Mary has purchased the former Superior Fabricators facility in Baldwin.
This more than 60,000 square foot facility will broaden the footprint of the Port of West St. Mary. The facility is strategically located on the Charenton Navigation and Drainage Canal and provides easy access to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and the Gulf of Mexico.
The port will be entering into a long term lease agreement with a marine fabricator next week. It is expected that the fabricator will employ approximately 100 people at the new facility.
Executive Director David Allain said he and port commissioners “are excited with the opportunity to expand the Port of West St. Mary to develop job opportunities for our local residents.”
Calvin Deshotel, President of the Commission said he is “pleased that the purchase of the Superior Fabricators facility will allow the jobs lost when the former business closed, to be restored.”
